My Story
Bruce Black is a lifelong artist who has been cultivating his passion for art since his early childhood. His love for art was encouraged by his grandparents, who took him to local gallery shows in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he drew and painted with abandon. Bruce pursued his passion for art as a career, earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and his graduate degree from the University of Delaware.
After completing his studies, Bruce moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked as an artist and taught art at Willamette University. He also served as the exhibition designer for the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, which is attached to the university. Currently, Bruce resides in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife Marla and son Liam, where he teaches art to junior high and high school students while exhibiting his work as often as possible.
Bruce is versatile in working with a variety of art media, having experimented with several different styles of art. His initial love for watercolor painting remains, and he continues to create watercolor landscapes and abstractions. Recently, Bruce has shifted his focus to traditional painting themes and has begun working with oil paints.
Bruce's paintings capture the unique beauty and mystique of the American southwest, inspired by the region's landscape, atmosphere, and light. His paintings convey mood and atmosphere through a tonalism style, resulting in a compelling narrative of the beauty of the American southwest.
